Owensboro Public Schools and Daviess County Public Schools will both be closed to in-person instruction Friday, Jan. 21 and both will utilize remote instruction. The OPS announcement came Thursday afternoon, while DCPS made their announcement Wednesday. Owensboro Catholic Schools will resume in-person instruction Friday.
Owensboro Public Schools
OPS will utilize a non-traditional instructional (NTI) day Friday. As this counts as a school day, it will not have to be made up at the end of the year. More information on NTI days can be found here.
Daviess County Public Schools
As announced Wednesday, DCPS will be closed Friday and will be using their fifth DCPS@Home day. More information on DCPS@Home can be found here.
Elementary students (grades P-5) should log in with their teachers at 9 a.m. Friday and complete “DCPS@Home Day 5” assignments. These assignments are also posted on the website linked above. Middle and high school class schedules are also included on the website linked above.
According to the Wednesday announcement from DCPS Superintendent Matt Robbins, “The decision to implement these DCPS@Home days is based on the forecast of inclement weather and potentially hazardous travel conditions, as well as the community rate of COVID-19, which has made it difficult for us to provide operational bus transportation and in-person classroom instruction.”
Robbins said Wednesday that, “At this time, we anticipate a return to in-person teaching and learning on Monday, Jan. 24. We appreciate the cooperation and support of our families in continuing the success of the DCPS@Home option, which allows students to continue learning without disruption.”
Owensboro Catholic Schools
OCS will resume in-person instruction Friday. However, bus riders will have to provide their own transportation.
