Two Daviess County Public Schools students were honored last month as winners of the ninth annual “Write Stuff” contest sponsored by Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana, an affiliate of Cancer Support Community. The contest is open to middle and high school students in Kentucky, southern Indiana, and areas of Tennessee.

Catherine Wright, a senior at Apollo High School, was awarded $500 as the first-place winner in the high school essay category.

Ellington Crabtree, a senior at Daviess County High School, won $250 as the second-place winner in the poetry category.

The girls are among 15 winners in six categories of essay, poetry, video, and art. In addition to the cash awards, they also received custom trophies celebrating their creative accomplishments.

Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana (GCK.org) is headquartered in Louisville, providing places where children and adults with cancer (and their families and friends) join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. Since March of 2020, GCK offers more than 180 virtual program offerings per month online, free of charge and available to men, women, teens, and children living with cancer across the globe.
