Kendra Bronsink has been named principal at Burns Middle School, effective July 1. Bronsink is currently serving as assistant principal at BMS, a position she has held since July 2019.

“I am filled with excitement at the continued opportunity to serve the students, teachers, and families of Burns Middle School in an even greater capacity,” Bronsink said. “I believe in the sacred mission of Burns, and I believe its faculty and staff are the best suited to transform that mission from words to reality each day. I am honored to be given the role of leading Burns Middle into its next great chapter of teaching and learning.”

Bronsink said her priorities and background support strong leadership in areas of positive relationships, communication and academic excellence.

“My 4 years at Burns have deepened my ability to see how each member of our Foxes Den brings valuable assets to our school,” she said. “I believe we have begun to build an excellent staff who believe in each other and in the mission of serving our students, and I believe I have built the trust and confidence to move us forward with compassion, courage, and curiosity.”

Before joining BMS in 2019, Bronsink filled many roles for Daviess County Public Schools. She started with the district in 2005 as the Apollo High School junior varsity volleyball coach and writing consultant. In 2011, she became an English teacher. During her time as a teacher until 2015, she was the author of the writing program review and established ELL sheltered classroom learning. In 2015, Bronsink was selected to serve as an Instructional Coach.

DCPS Assistant Superintendent for Human Services Dr. Amy Shutt said the selection committee sought a leader to support teachers and staff, and someone to work collaboratively with families to build upon the strong foundation of excellence at Burns Middle.

“With the hiring of Kendra Bronsink, we found an outstanding leader who will lead Burns Middle on the journey to continue high academic achievement and the goal of preparing students to be successful in life,” Shutt said. “Kendra is a well-respected educator in our district and will be a great addition to the secondary principal group. She brings a wealth of knowledge of instruction and has a heart for the Burns Middle students and staff. Kendra is an outstanding person and a great leader.”
