The Owensboro YMCA’s annual Young Leaders Luncheon is still accepting scholarship applications for their over $5,000 total scholarships.
The annual Luncheon honors students who have just graduated from Owensboro-Daviess County high schools as they head to college in the fall. The scholarship is open for all students and the main requirement is the student aspires to make a difference.
Applicants can apply by emailing [email protected]. The deadline to apply is July 10.
This year’s luncheon will be held at the Kentucky Wesleyan College Jack T. Wells Activity Center on August 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We’re looking for the service component. We do look for the need for financial assistance, but just involvement in the community is important. It’s not just if you’re the smartest or have the best ACT scores. It’s a little bit different than most scholarships that look for just the finest academics. We’re just looking for people who tried really hard to make a difference in the community,” Chief Development Officer Kristi Harrison said.
The luncheon will award two students $1,500 and three with $750. Harrison noted that students do not have to be YMCA members to apply.
“It’s going to be an amazing event; our applicants are top-notch this year! Corporate tables for 6 are $1,500, and that supports the scholarship fund.” Owensboro YMCA CEO Tom Bontrager said.
Tickets can be purchased individually for $300, for a table of 6 for $1,500 or for a Table of 12 for $2,500.
Tables and seats are still available. To reserve a seat, contact Harrison at 270-663-8203 or [email protected].
