Wendell Foster, a local non-profit agency serving people with disabilities, is seeking community support on Giving Tuesday. This year, Giving Tuesday is also Owensboro Gives Day. This day was created to ignite the power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring Nov. 27, Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events of Black Friday, Shop Local and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

“Owensboro has many well-operated charities and we could all use your generous donations to our causes,” said Jeff Hagan, Wendell Foster’s Director of Marketing. “This year we are encouraging over 4,000 of our Facebook followers to create a fundraiser directly on their Facebook page. This type of fundraising is called social fundraising or peer-to-peer fundraising. It’s friends asking friends.”

Every dollar donated makes a difference and goes to ensure quality of life for all people served by Wendell Foster. Services extend beyond the facility, reaching many living in our community.

“Giving Tuesday is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for Wendell Foster and kick off the season of charitable giving,” said Maggie Price, VP of Development at Wendell Foster. “We are so grateful for contributions from the community, whether it be your time, in-kind donations or financial support.”

Funds raised through this event will help Wendell Foster meet their holiday fundraising goal of $10,000. These funds benefit equipment for Outpatient Therapy, Autism Program supplies and Day Supports here at Wendell Foster.
