Although many toys and gifts from the holidays have now lost their luster, the final numbers for some of the most precious toys of the season are just now rolling in.

Local Toys for Tots Coordinator, Louis F. Drawdy, MSgt USMC, Retired, released a letter Thursday thanking the many generous donors throughout the community for their efforts in ensuring a successful 2018 season for Toys for Tots.

“Dear Toys for Tots supporters, thank you to everyone who participated in our 2018 campaign,” Drawdy wrote, “Thank you to Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Hopkins, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Union and Webster Counties in Kentucky and Rockport, Spencer County in Indiana.”

Norris Detachment #804 Marine Corps League is the Toys for Tots representative for western Kentucky, which encompasses nine counties and a population of 291,800 over 3,696 square miles.

As of mid-December, 2018 was looking to be one of the largest collection years so far for the local Toys for Tots detachment. Now that the final numbers have been tallied, 2018 did not disappoint.

“Many individuals and organizations worked to make this campaign the success that it was and I appreciate all of the support that was given,” Drawdy said. “Through your efforts and support, we were able to give away 14,120 toys to 5,345 children with an assessed value of approximately $150,000.”

According to Toys for Tots Norris Detachment #804, whatever monies are gathered locally, stay in the community, because “every child deserves a Christmas.”
