Realtors Got Talent is a karaoke fundraising event to benefit the seven homeless shelters that Aid the Homeless supports.

Aid the Homeless, a charity organization started by local realtors in Owensboro, will be hosting Realtors Got Talent, a karaoke fundraising event to benefit the seven homeless shelters that Aid the Homeless supports.

The upcoming event will be held at CYO Brewery & Taproom on April 25, with the karaoke contest running from 7-8 p.m. Matt Shown, Communication Services Assistant with the Greater Owensboro Realtors Association said Realtors Got Talent will take place the same evening that CYO hosts its weekly karaoke night.

“This is our second time doing this event. It’ll be a fun night of karaoke to raise money for Aid the Homeless,” Shown said. “People will be competing, and a portion of drinks bought will be donated toward the event as well.”

Tickets will cost $1 each, and Shown said the purchased tickets can be added to drink tabs. CYO has a system that will keep a tally on the votes.

Shown said he was surprised to find out how many realtors shared a singing talent after last year’s event.

“We didn’t know we had some realtors with hidden singing abilities,” Shown said. “Those who attend will pick their favorites, purchase a ticket and vote at the counter.”

The event is open to the entire community, and while realtors will be the ones singing on stage, anyone and everyone is welcome to grab a drink, hang out with some of the local realtors and vote for their favorite contestants.

Shown said Aid the Homeless raised $900 at last year’s event. Over the last six years, Aid the Homeless has donated around $300,000 toward nine local shelters, including Adrienne’s House, Boulware Mission, CrossRoads, Daniel Pitino Shelter, OASIS, Saint Benedict’s, St. Joseph’s Peace Mission, Yewell Home and The Empowerment Academy.

What differentiates Aid the Homeless from organizations that distribute grants is that none of the funds are earmarked for specific use. Homeless shelters are able to use those funds for whatever they choose.

Aid the Homeless also aims to bring awareness to the homeless population across the local area. Public events, like Realtors Got Talent, are used to bring more notoriety to a substantial issue.

“Our hopes for this event is that it helps Aid the Homeless get their name out there, so people know their money can go to a large number of shelters,” Shown said. “We’re looking forward to a good time. We encourage the community to come and have a good night.”
