Even though Owensboro Regional Recovery’s annual golf scramble won’t take place, officials with the agency came up with a safe but visually entertaining event: a 500 Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser that will take place in mid-September.

Outreach and Development Coordinator Hailey Wilkerson said it should be a fascinating event for donors to participate in, even from home.

“You purchase a golf ball for a chance to win a prize,” Wilkerson said. “The balls drop from a lift and whichever ball lands closest to the prize pins, that’ll be the winner. Just to see that many golf balls drop at once is fascinating.”

ORR is offering a variety of prizes, including a brand new smart TV, for those whose golf balls land closest to the prize pins.

Golf balls can be purchased either individually or in bulk. One ball costs $10, three balls cost $25, five cost $40, and 10 balls can be purchased for $75.

All proceeds go toward Owensboro Regional Recovery, which offers six- and ninth-month recovery programs for around 100 men trying to recover from addiction, gain control of their lives, and eventually reside in permanent housing.

Wilkerson hand-painted the 500 balls herself, she said. They can be purchased on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those interested in purchasing a golf ball can click here. The event will be live-streamed through Owensboro Regional Recovery’s Facebook page at 9 a.m. Sept. 18.

“We’re still active and still trying to support our community, and we really need the community’s support to make it through this time,” Wilkerson said.
