Friends of Sinners is preparing to host their 11th annual banquet on Nov. 10, though it will look different than in years past due to the pandemic.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Owensboro Christian Church and feature finger foods followed by client testimonies, a stand-up comedian, and prizes.
As with many non-profit organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic has dampened their fundraising efforts this year. Forced to cancel many of their other annual fundraisers, the group has their sights set high for the banquet.
“Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this life-changing, soul-saving ministry,” said development director Jordan Wilson. “We are asking for people to prayerfully consider helping us achieve this goal. We could not keep the FOS Ministry going without the support of the community.”
Initially reluctant to host an in-person banquet, the group’s board of directors decided to push forward with protocol in place. With social distancing in-tact, the group will also provide hand sanitizer and a mask to every guest.
A live stream is also available for the event, which pairs well with their ‘watch party’ sponsorship package. This package offers a gift bag of coffee, snacks, gifts, and eight tickets for the various drawings. The watch party that raises the most funds is also in line for a special treat.
“The goal of the ‘watch parties’ is not only to watch safely from the comfort of your home, but it is also to help raise money for the Friends of Sinners ministry,” Wilson said. “We encourage you to invite your friends and family that are eager to donate.”
FOS, a Christ-centered substance abuse program, was founded in 2009 and offers residential treatment for both men and women.
Unlike several rehabilitation institutes, Friends of Sinners does not bill insurance for any of their services. In doing so, they are not binded to any restrictions, and are able to keep Christ at the center, which is their ultimate goal.
“Our goal is to see people walk with Jesus,” Wilson said. “Helping them to achieve sobriety is a byproduct of that. Our supporters believe there is a freedom in Christ.”

“This fundraiser sets the tone for the upcoming year,” Wilson said. “We deeply appreciate the community and we look forward to forming new partnerships in the years to come.”
