Local homeless shelters recently received a total of $29,000 in donations from Aid the Homeless, a charity founded by GO REALTORS.

The check was presented to St. Benedict’s Shelter for Men, St. Joseph Peace Mission for Children, CrossRoads of Hope, Daniel Pitino Shelter, Oasis Shelter, and Boulware Mission.

“Aid the Homeless works to provide resources to Owensboro-area shelters that support homeless people with respect, integrity, and grace,” said Tyler Shookman, 2021 ATH President. “Aid the Homeless was established by the Greater Owensboro Realtor Association (now GO REALTORS), which provides operational expenses so that 100% of outside donations are used to benefit the shelters.”

The funds are unrestricted, so they can be used toward each shelter’s greatest needs.

Both annual fundraising events for Aid the Homeless were cancelled in 2020, and all money was donated virtually.

Shookman said it was a great feeling to still be able to provide some financial help, and said it’s important for the community to show support in whatever way they can.

“When you volunteer in our local shelters it tugs on your heart strings,” he said. “It definitely motivates you to do more and give back as much as you can. Any one of us could be one situation or catastrophe away from homelessness. Every person in our local shelters has a unique story and deserves respect.”

Aid the Homeless has now raised more $380,000 for local shelters. For more information or to donate, visit aidthehomeless.org.
