Friends of Sinners

Friends of Sinners is in the process of moving their men’s houses into a 16,000-square-foot facility on Jackson Street. The new location — formerly the Arc of Owensboro — will house upwards of 30 men and feature a chapel and offices.

The local nonprofit strives to provide a safe and structured post-treatment environment where residents can establish a strong, spiritual foundation in recovery. Development director Jordan Wilson looks for the new facility to further their mission and drastically improve the quality of treatment offered to their clients.

“Our executive director Joe Welsh has been searching for a new men’s facility for years,” Wilson said. “The houses that the men currently live in were not built for industrial use.”

Welsh initially had aspirations to convert a school into a treatment facility before stumbling upon the Arc location a few years back. After years of prayer and believing that it would one day belong to Friends of Sinners, his prayers were answered. The group is expected to close on the property this week.

The organization keeps Christ at the center of all its efforts, and acquiring the new location isn’t any different. The location enhances their ability to transform individuals into positive contributors to society.

Wilson said there’s still work to be done on the building, but trusts the process will be a fruitful one.

“We need to upgrade the bathrooms and install a commercial kitchen – other than that, there are a lot of cosmetic changes to be made,” he said. “This will require a lot of work and money , but we believe God will bring the support we need.”
