The Daniel Pitino Shelter has been chosen as this year’s recipient for the annual Empty Bowl fundraiser. The committee for Empty Bowls has also announced that the event is scheduled for Oct. 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Activity Hall.

Tickets are $15 and go on sale Monday, and they are available only at E.M. Ford (600 Frederica Street) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is closed daily from 12-1 p.m. for lunch.

Only 400 tickets will be available and they are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees select a ceramic bowl from hundreds of handcrafted options made specifically for this event by local artisans, community members and students of Brescia University.

Brescia’s Art Department supplied the clay, glaze, and location for the bowls to be created. A community bowl-making day also took place at iArt Studios this year.

Each participant at the event will then receive one of numerous soups made available by local restaurants, chefs and churches. New this year will be “celebrity servers.”

As in years past, a silent auction will also be available at the event. Any person or organization wishing to donate an item or basket for our silent auction is encouraged to reach out to the committee by email at [email protected].  All donations to Empty Bowls are tax-deductible.

Empty Bowls is a local organization that is dedicated to the national effort of feeding the hungry. The Daniel Pitino Shelter feeds approximately 30,000 people in the greater Owensboro community annually.

Last year more than $10,000 was awarded to Feed a Friend, which serves more than 10,000 people in the community annually through community dinners and through a food pantry that serves veterans in need.

For more information on Empty Bowls, business sponsorships or silent auction donations, contact the committee at [email protected] or visit them on Facebook.
