The ninth annual Dancing with Our Stars Owensboro Style fundraiser for the Boulware Mission was one for the books. After going virtual in 2020 due to COVID-19, this year’s event brought in a record-breaking amount of more than $161,000 earlier this month.

Taunya Iverson and Buster Ashley took home the coveted mirror ball trophy and title of 2021 champions. They were coached by last year’s winning instructor, Baylee Long. Their team alone raised over $31,000 and held 18 different fundraisers.

Boulware CEO and Executive Director Amy Pride said while she has only been in her role for about a month, she knew one of her main goals was to work with local people and be a part of the Owensboro community.

“I am humbled and proud to be a part of such a giving community and am honored to be part of a very special organization,” she said. “I am looking forward to what the future holds for the Boulware Mission, especially with this wonderful community behind us.”

Second-place finishers were Ryan and Chivonne Rutman, the first married couple to compete in this event. Michelle Cecil and Brandy Mathew came in third place.

Celebrity dancers also included Cathy Pickrell, Phillip Page, Brandon Gentry, Natalie Woodard with instructors Josilyn Swails, Stephanie Rhinerson and Kevin Kabalen. This year’s judges were Tyler Shookman, Laura Ruth Edge, and Jimmy and Natalie Henning.

Boulware Mission has been helping the homeless and near homeless in the community for more than 100 years and depends on donations to meet its annual budget.

Event Coordinator and Director of Development Rhonda Davis said everyone should be proud to have a part in carrying out Boulware’s mission of changing lives for the better and improving the community they live in.
