A new Halloween-themed event later this month will help raise funds for local homeless shelters. The inaugural Kentucky Legend Spooktacular is set for Oct. 23 at the Owensboro Convention Center, with all proceeds going toward the Aid the Homeless charity.

Aid the Homeless (ATH) is the signature charity of the Greater Owensboro Realtor Association. Since its inception in 2011, ATH has raised nearly $400,000 directly benefiting local area homeless shelters.

“Our board of directors wanted a fun and exciting fundraising event that didn’t compete with any of our nonprofit’s charitable events,” said Tyler Shookman, ATH President. “The month of October was open, so we came up with the idea of throwing the biggest Halloween bash Owensboro has ever seen.”

The party begins at 8 p.m. with live music from Nashville band The Naked Karate Girls and continues through midnight with guest appearances from D.J. Hop. The event will include hors d’oeuvres and cash bars. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. They can be purchased through owensborotickets.com.

Costumes are encouraged but not required, and awards will be given to the best dressed.

Shookman said ATH supports six local shelters with funding. Their 2021 beneficiaries are OASIS, Boulware Mission, St. Benedict’s, Daniel Pitino Shelter, St. Joseph Peace Mission and Friends of Sinners.

One hundred percent of outside donations are used to benefit the shelters. One of the main benefits of the charity is that all funds coming from ATH can be used as the nonprofits see fit.

Both annual fundraising events for Aid the Homeless were cancelled in 2020, and all money was donated virtually.
