Empty Bowls of Owensboro is accepting applications from area soup kitchens and food pantries to be considered as a recipient of this year’s event funds. The deadline to submit an application is July 31.

This year’s event will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Sts. Joseph & Paul Parish Hall, located at 514 East 4th Street.

Tickets for the annual event will go on sale sometime in the fall. A limited number of tickets will be available for this event and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. If all tickets are not pre-sold, they will be available to purchase at the door.

The ticket allows attendees to select a ceramic bowl from hundreds of handcrafted bowls made especially for this event by local artisans, community members and students of Brescia University. Each participant at the event will then select one of the numerous soups made available by local restaurants, chefs and churches for a simple dinner.

As in years past, a silent auction will also be available at the event. Any person or organization wishing to donate an item or basket for the silent auction is encouraged to reach out to the committee by email at [email protected]. All donations to Empty Bowls are tax-deductible.

For more information on Empty Bowls, sponsorships or silent auction donations, visit eboky.org, contact the committee at [email protected], or visit them on Facebook.

Empty Bowls is a local organization that is dedicated to the national effort of feeding the hungry. Funds are raised through an annual event and are provided to local shelters, churches and other organizations that aid in the effort.

Last year, $16,000 was awarded to the Daniel Pitino Shelter, which feeds approximately 30,000 people annually in the greater Owensboro community.
