St. Benedict’s 10th annual bed sponsorship fundraiser is underway, and Executive Director Harry Pedigo is looking to set a new record. Funds from a sponsorship go toward a resident’s meals, showers, laundry, housing services and now the transitional program.
“Every year it’s increased thankfully to God. We’ve increased by 10 or 20 sponsorships every year. This year we’re shooting to beat last year by 50,” Pedigo said.
Each bed sponsorship costs $500 for one year. The campaign typically gets around 200 sponsorships, which accounts for about 50% of the budget for the nonprofit and is critical to the success of the organization as a whole.
Over the 10 years, St. Benedict’s have been able to cover unforeseen expenses that come up plus renovations to the shelter over the last two years.
Pedigo said they have tried to keep the sponsorship price low to ensure the community is still able to donate.
Pedigo said his favorite part of the program has been the clients making connections with the donors. After the donations come in, a plaque is hung in the facility listing all those who donated, which catches the attention of visitors and clients.
“The clients seeing the plaques know that the community really stands behind them and supports them, but also helps them see hope. The guys know that they’re not alone, and that is probably my favorite thing,” Pedigo said.
