Aid the Homeless on Friday donated a total of $8,000 to local shelters Crossroads and My Sister’s Keeper. It marks the second round of funds given out by the local charity this year, as Aid the Homeless donated $20,000 to other shelters in May.

For the winter donation, Aid the Homeless took detailed tours of each shelter that applied and chose to split the remaining funding between Crossroads and My Sister’s Keeper, two shelters that did not receive a  donation in the first allocation.

This decision was based on immediate need and where the monies will make the biggest  impact to help the most homeless clients, the charity said in a release.

The spring funds were divided among Boulware Mission, Daniel Pitino, Friends of Sinners, Oasis, St. Benedict’s, and St. Joseph’s Peace Mission.

Since its inception, Aid the Homeless has donated over $408,000 to local area homeless  shelters.

Aid the Homeless is a charity founded by the Greater Owensboro Realtor Association to help support important community organizations that serve to shelter those in need.

Each year, Aid the Homeless encourages area shelters to apply for funding. The accepted  applicants are reviewed and carefully considered to make informed decisions on allocation of  the funds. There are no restrictions for the donation, allowing shelters to use the monies for  their specific needs.
