Gov. Andy Beshear stopped in Owensboro Monday morning to award 66 local nonprofits a collective $4.6 million that are “”building a brighter future” for the community.

A full list of recipients and their awards can be found below.

“No matter the challenges they’ve faced, these incredible nonprofits have stepped up to support Kentucky families in this community,” Beshear said. “Like any parent, I want my kids and yours to have every opportunity right here, so they never feel like they have to leave home to chase their dreams. The 66 different organizations we’re recognizing today are building that brighter future for all of our people.”

The awards came from the Governor’s Nonprofit Assistance Fund comes from federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars and Beshear which supported the allocation by the 2022 General Assembly.

Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro-Daviess County received $100,000, and Executive Director Jeremy Stephens said the funding will go toward helping families receive affordable housing through Habitat.

“We are so appreciative to have the support from our state through the Team Kentucky Nonprofit Assistance Fund and will use it to further our mission of providing a pathway to success, for members of our community, through homeownership,” Stephens said.

Britt Cobb, executive director of the Green River Area Down Syndrome Association (GRADSA), said they are grateful for the financial assistance.

“These funds allow us to grow our mission to enable families enriched with the Down syndrome connection to share resources, build friendships and advocate for the future of individuals with disabilities,” Cobb said. “Kentucky has a strong tradition of supporting its own and this program is a testament to the commonwealth’s devotion to assisting underserved communities.”
