Habitat for Humanity joined together with several organizations in the community to help expose elementary-aged children to trades over Spring Break through the E.P.I.C. Youth Camp.

E.P.I.C. — which stands for electrical, plumbing, innovation and construction — is a camp for K-5 students who may not have the chance to learn those skills and offers a chance to expand their horizons on what they could do if they find a passion in it.

“We use this program as a way to promote the trades so the students have early exposure to what is possible in their future,” said Jeremy Stephens, Executive Director for the local Habitat chapter.

Stephens said partners included Owensboro Community and Technical College, Girls Inc., Jagoe Homes, the H.L. Neblett Community Center, and the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club.

While he said the camp was successful, Stephens said they don’t plan to stop there are looking to expand the program to a summer option this year.

Stephens hopes to be able to get the schools involved as well to grow the program even more.

“Long-term we hope to partner wth schools and expand the program to accommodate middle school-age students,” Stephens said.
