The local Habitat for Humanity chapter is raffling a 10×12-foot custom backyard shed — filled with other prizes including a 55-inch television, Weber gas grill, barstools, and more — with the full package valued at more than $9,000. Raffle tickets are $20 and go on sale May 8, with all proceeds going completely to future Habitat home builds.

“I think this is going to be a really successful project,” said Jeremy Stephens, Executive Director at Habitat. “Sometimes you need to think outside the box when fundraising, but there’s a lot of logic in doing what you do best. We build houses. It only makes sense to incorporate that in our fundraising.”

The shed, called the “Habitat Hut” will have windows plus a 2-foot roof overhang. Stephens said it could be used to meet a variety of needs, from being used as a she shed to a man cave to a playhouse for the kids.

The shed will be built entirely by the Habitat construction crew. The project is being sponsored by Kight Home Center, with contributions by Liberty Federal Credit Union, Jagoe Homes, and Atmos Energy.

“Because of these corporate partnerships and support, Habitat is able to host this unique fundraiser,” Stephens said.

A total of 4,000 tickets will be available. Ticket sales will start May 8 at Habitat For Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County, located at 2930 West 4th Street. Tickets will also be available virtually with PayPal and Venmo, and possibly at locations around town throughout May and June.
