Owensboro Students for Life is a newly formed nonprofit organization of high school students who say they are committed to the pro-life cause. They held their first event Tuesday, setting up a “Cemetery of Innocents” and holding signs showcasing their stance on abortion.

Students for Life is an organization with groups across the nation. Owensboro’s was formed recently and is an incorporated 501c3 nonprofit.

Evie Kline is the president of the group, while her twin sister Ellie is the vice president. Their mom Elizabeth serves as advisor. Other student leaders for the group include Chloe Cropp, Katie St. Clair, and Adelyn Lee.

“Our goal is to support our local pregnancy centers, educate our peers on the abortion issue, and then to support the dignity of the human person from conception to natural death,” Evie Kline said.

The Cemetery of the Innocents was on display Tuesday afternoon on the front lawn of Christ Presbyterian Church on KY 54. The group set up more than 600 small crosses for the display. which Evie Kline said “represents the 600+ babies killed by chemical abortion daily in the United States.”

Local pro-life organizations Care Net Owensboro, Birthright of Owensboro, and Right to Life Owensboro had representatives on site in support of the students.

The student group is working on ideas for future events and hopes the community will attend.

“They have a pro-life dance they are organizing,” Elizabeth Kline said. “They’ve been thinking about fundraising for college scholarships for pregnant teens. They have an idea for another baby box in Owensboro. Then more educational and informational activities as well.”

Evie Kline said they hope more local students get involved.

“We’d love as many public high school students to come and join us as we can,” she said.
