Breaking the Cycle’s annual Back to School Bash returns on July 27. The event hopes to prepare students for school with all the equipment needed.
From 12 to 4 p.m., the free event at Dugan Best Recreation Center will give out over 170 backpacks filled with essential school supplies. In addition to the backpacks, they will supply other school prep like lineup haircuts for boys and braids for girls.
Though the event aims to prepare the students, Founder Brionna Greer said they want them to feel empowered by this preparation.
“Our event is not just about giving away free stuff – it’s about empowering these kids with the tools and confidence they need to succeed. We’re proud to be a part of this effort and can’t wait to see the impact it will have on our community,” Greer said.
This free event is designed to help local children prepare for the upcoming school year with over 170 backpacks filled with essential school supplies.
Since starting the bash three years ago, Greer said that they are thankful for the change they have made each year but still sad to see the need that still exists in the community.
“It’s heartbreaking to know that some children may not have the necessary tools and resources to succeed in the classroom, which is why we’re dedicated to providing them with the essential items they need to thrive,” Greer said.
In addition to the donations, they will provide free food, music, inflatables, face paintings, and a vendor’s fair throughout the park. They will also give away prizes to local restaurants.
They do not require registration to attend, but only children in attendance can receive a backpack. Children of all ages can attend and receive a backpack.
Breaking the Cycle is still accepting more donations to the event. Anyone interested can message Breaking the Cycle online.
