Imagination Library of Daviess County’s 2024 collectible ornament takes a trip to the east side this year with Wonder Whip.
Ornaments cost $18 each and can be purchased at Wonder Whip, Crazy Me Gifts, Willow Tree, Danhauer Drugs, Simply Chic, and Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s gift shop. To have an ornament shipped out of town, contact ILDC through their Facebook Page.
This is the 21st ornament released by the ILDC, which continues to spotlight different local landmarks yearly. In the past, they have done Rolling Pin, Gabe’s Tower, Union Station, Sassafras Tree and their best-selling, cross-town staple, Big Dipper.
“We did the Big Dipper two years ago, and it was just fabulous. But Big Dipper’s a west side of the county icon, whereas Wonder Whip is an east side of the county icon. So we decided that Wonder Whip would be a great one this year,” Diane Bowers, chair of the ILDC board, said.
Bowers said they made 600 ornaments, but she anticipates purchasing more, considering how successful previous years have been.
Bowers said they kept the price this year because they wanted to be mindful of the prices elsewhere as families start planning for the holiday season. This led them to keep the price at a stagnant $18.
“We just didn’t want to raise our price and didn’t feel the need to, honestly. Our increase from last year was very insignificant, so we felt comfortable about leaving it at the price,” Bowers said.
The Imagination Library is a program sponsored by Dolly Parton that mails one book per month to every child registered from birth to five years old. While the Dollywood Foundation selects the books and purchases and mails them, the local organization pays for them.
