Southern Star was recognized on Friday, May 10, with the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR)’s Pro Patria Award for support of our team member, Danielle Randolph, Capacity Scheduler Analyst in Owensboro, KY during her active deployment with the U.S. Army National Guard.

The Pro Patria Award is presented annually by the ESGR’s State Committee’s to one small, one large and one public sector employer in the state. The award is the highest recognition bestowed by the ESGR State Committee, and it is given to recipients who demonstrated the greatest support to Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership and practices.

Mike Richie, Retired Brigadier General & ESGR Kentucky State Chairman, and John Gipe, Retired Command Sergeant Major and ESGR Kentucky State Vice Chairman, presented the award to Shawn Patterson, President & Chief Executive Officer of Southern Star, on the company’s behalf in Owensboro.

Richie said Southern Star was the top company in the category of large companies for the state of Kentucky.
“This award is in recognition of the superior level of support you provide to guardsman and reservists who work for your company,” said Richie.

Companies recognized with the ESGR’s Above and Beyond Award, have had a supervisor or representative receive their Patriot Award and signed a Statement of Support are eligible for the Pro Patria Award. Angiy Mason, Leader, Capacity Scheduling, received the ESGR Patriot Award for her support of Randolph during her deployment after being nominated for the recognition last year.

Shawn Patterson, President & Chief Executive Officer, stated this award is a testament to the team’s focus on supporting veterans and military service members within our team and in our communities.

“It’s a privilege to support and work alongside Danielle and all our military team members across our system,” Patterson said. “At the end of the day, it’s these men and women serving our country who deserve to be celebrated.”
