Pirates and Mermaids, a family fun night being offered at Combest Pool by Owensboro Parks and Recreation, will be held Saturday, July 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Raft races, a hidden treasure hunt, a coin dive and limbo are some of the events planned for the evening. There will be prizes and giveaways as well.

Two years ago, Combest Pool started offering two theme nights per summer for families with children 12 and under.

“The Parks and Recreation Department was looking on ways to draw families to the pool and come up with something fun they can do together,” said Jennifer Hodges of Owensboro Parks and Recreation.

June’s family fun night was “Moana,” but due to the weather, many did not attend.

“We are hoping to have more of a turn out for ‘Pirates and Mermaids,’” Hodges said, adding they anticipate at least 50 attending.

Cost is $8 per person, which includes swimming and a choice of hot dog or corn dog, chips and a drink. There will also be a photo booth set up for pictures.

“We will also have a special guest, a mermaid, that the kids can take pics with at our photo booth,” Hodges said.
