Local restaurant owner Ben Skiadas noticed the difficulty in finding food trucks throughout the week since they move throughout town on a nightly basis. Through a collaboration, he hopes to solve that issue with “The Lot” — a food truck park for all the city’s go-to mobile eateries.

Skiadas said when he opened the Lure Smokeshack, he began realizing the problems with running a mobile food truck.

“What I was realizing is in the hustle of food trucks in this community, unlike other communities, we’re constantly chasing down places that work out,” he said.

Additionally, he said that the community is a “very expedient town” where customers won’t always exert the effort to find the daily location of any given food truck.

After some conversations with Welborn’s Floral Company, Skiadas will be leasing the Market 03 event space at 900 East 4th Street on occasions for food truck events. Welborn’s will continue to have their own operations at the venue, so Skiadas said they will operate through a combined calendar.

“We’re looking to grow this into a long-term partnership, where I’m leasing the space for a longer term and running a Food Truck Park and helping host events there,” Skiadas said.

They will test out the space with a few winter events in December to welcome people to the new venture.

On December 9, they will host “Eat, Drink and be Ugly” and encourage guests to come in ugly Christmas sweaters and enjoy wine and dinner. All proceeds will go toward the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.

On December 11, they will host a pajama party during the day along with a buffet from the Lure Smokeshack, plus a cigar bar, football games viewing parties, and more.

But the season will really start in the Spring, Skiadas said. He has already begun contacting different trucks in the area and is hoping many will join in the effort.

In the meantime, Skiadas said people can stay up to date with the events at The Lot on their Facebook page.
