Integrative & Functional Medicine Physician, Dr. Kay Corpus is bringing thermography imaging back to Owensboro on Feb. 28. Mobile thermography, a service provided by Bras Thermography of Louisville, is considered a safe, easy and pain-free complement to mammography.

“It’s literally no different than getting your picture taken but this imaging detects heat or inflammation in the body,” Corpus said. “I think thermography is a great option for younger women, those with implants and for women like me who want to know what kind of inflammation I have going on in my body.”

Thermography costs $195 for breast, $295 for half body, and $395 for full body imaging. Although many clients are female, both men and women can use it as a way to safely look for inflammation and dysfunction in the body.

“So I’m all about choice and I just think we should be empowered to have options in choosing. There’s a mammogram and an MRI, but there are also side effects to those options. This is an alternative to that for some,” said Corpus who personally uses thermography and has patients who have chosen the same. “It’s what I’d choose for my body because I don’t want extra exposure. It’s just another tool that we use that’s less harmful.”

Individuals utilizing the services typically receive reports, including color images, in two to three business days. Results are reported by certified doctors and both a baseline and three-month re-imaging can be established to view pattern changes.

Although insurance does not cover the services, many patients find thermography as an alternative option for screening or to complement their choice of traditional mammography and MRI options.

“I like it because it detects things earlier on. I want to know what that inflammation is way before those calcifications come up,” said Corpus. “It’s an opportunity to do interventions earlier on and really know your body.”
