Balance Health + Body is kicking off a healthy community project Aug. 24 at its Balance Midtown location.

With a call to action by owner Kimberly Montgomery and other “community do-gooders,” Montgomery said the main goal of the fair is to keep people motivated and attracted to fitness and healthy living.

Several of the do-gooders have signed on to offer services during the Be Active + Live Well{ness} Fair. Each vendor will offer a special or for their service and Balance will be collecting gently worn tennis shoes from men, women and children to be donated to the Daniel Pitino Shelter. In return, a $10 gift card to Balance class packages will be offered.

“Several vendors will have food and drink samples, and The Spot [food truck] will be there all morning,” Montgomery said.

Since taking ownership of Balance 54 in 2016, Montgomery has added Health + Body to the name, added a mid-town studio and taken more of a community role in what classes and instructors she adds to the schedule.

Often class packages are offered at discounted prices, and Montgomery is quick to add challenges to classes to hold attendees responsible while creating a competitive and fun environment.

“The Be Active + Live Well{ness} Fair will take place just about seven weeks shy of our one-year anniversary of Balance Midtown,” Montgomery said. “The two locations have been so much fun to manage with all of the awesome instructors because we love the creative freedom of providing challenging, fun and efficient workouts for our clients. It is truly a passion project for us all to maintain and promote physical and mental health and it absolutely shows through all of the positive feedback.”

Montgomery takes to social media almost daily, offering fist-bump emojis, a “bombshell” trademark, to instructors and those who participated in a difficult class.

By bringing in local women to show the community what they offer for a healthy lifestyle, Montgomery hopes to shine a light on all of the great things Owensboro has to offer.

“From activities to services, and fresh, gourmet goods to natural and sustainable products, anyone stopping by the event will have a great experience,” Montgomery said. “We have partnered with most of these vendors before and it creates such an amazing vibe.”

Julie Moore of Moore Yoga will be teaching a free yoga class that begins 8 a.m. for all levels. Participants just need to bring a mat.

Health assessments will be offered by Jen Thompson.

Krista Clark will be available to discuss Balance Baby. Trisha Phelps, O.T., will be there as a representative for Progressive Sports Therapy. Natalie Johnson will be there as a FASTer coach for FASTer Way to Fat Loss. Kim Johnson will have Juice Plus products to discuss and Cecil Farms Produce will also be at the fair.

The Spot Coffee Truck and Wheatgrass Juice Bar will be there as well.

The fair takes place Saturday, Aug. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m., with yoga at 8 a.m.

Balance Health + Body is located at 1700 Frederica St., Ste. 103.
