Owensboro Health’s Run For Your Life’s annual 5K, 10K and Kids’ Fun Run will take place at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Owensboro Health Healthpark.

Mary Higginbotham has run the race several times and her two boys have also participated in the fun run for the last few years. Parker and Tate are students at Highland Elementary School and are involved with the school’s cross country team. As part of the team, the sponsor, Melanie Camron, asks that students participate in the fun run if they can, and Higginbotham said that both boys enjoy it.

“We try to make it a family event,” Higginbotham said. “We as a family and also as a community members are lucky that our community embraces opportunities for families to be involved and promote healthy events.”

The 5K and 10K begin at 7:30 a.m. and prizes will be awarded following each individual event to overall male and female 5K and 10K winner and the top three finishers in each age division.

The half-mile Kid’s Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. and kids who participate will be able to put their name in a drawing to win one of eight bikes and helmets that will be given away. A $500 wellness grant will also be given to the school who has the most participants at the event.

Junior League of Owensboro sponsors the 5K and 10K and Owensboro Health Foundation sponsors the Kids’ Fun Run.

The cost to enter the 5K is $25 and the 10K is $30. To register for the events, please go to www.owensborohealth.org/race.
