The University of Louisville School of Nursing Owensboro Extension has expanded enrollment to allow more students the opportunity to earn their BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree through both traditional and accelerated programs.

“The increase in enrollment to 100 students per year is an important step given current healthcare workforce shortages,” said Amy Higdon, DNP, RN, Assistant Dean of Owensboro BSN Programs. “Our ultimate goal is to produce even more high-quality, well-prepared nurses who will provide excellent care to members of our community.”

Some students can move toward that goal even faster in the accelerated program, which allows individuals who have secured a bachelor’s degree in any other field to qualify to earn their BSN degree in just 15 months.

“The University of Louisville School of Nursing Owensboro Extension is more than just a nursing school,” May 2022 BSN graduate Gracie Kemplin said. “During my time in the program, I not only gained the knowledge and skills it takes to be an excellent nurse, but I gained unbreakable bonds and friendships to last a lifetime. This program pushed me both academically and personally, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without it.”

A mix of online courses and in-person clinicals allows students to have flexible schedules in a program close to home.
