Orangetheory Fitness is coming to Owensboro. The boutique fitness studio offers high-intensity interval training during hour-long group workouts for all fitness levels. The Owensboro studio, which will be located in Gateway Commons, is expected to open in early 2023.

Whitney and Tyson Martin, who also own studios in Bowling Green and Evansville, will own the Owensboro location. Whitney said Orangetheory offers a heart-rate based total-body workout.

“It combines science, coaching and technology to guarantee maximum results from the inside out,” Martin said. “It’s designed to charge your metabolism for more caloric afterburn, more results, and more confidence, all to deliver you more life.”

According to the Orangetheory website, “During our heart-rate based HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout, your coach will guide you through our 5 different heart rate zones: resting, easy, challenging, uncomfortable and All Out, telling you when to push harder and when to pull back for recovery. The goal is to spend 12 minutes or more with your heart rate elevated in ‘The Orange Zone’ to boost your metabolism, burn fat and burn more calories.”

An HIIT workout alternates between short periods of intense work followed immediately by a  recovery period of the same length or longer. This cycle is repeated throughout the workout.

The studio uses technology tracking so that members “know how hard they need to work

in order to achieve the best results,” according to Orangetheory’s site.

Each workout comprises cardiovascular exercise on a treadmill or bike/strider, as well as rowing and strength training.

As of August 2021, Orangetheory Fitness has expanded to over 1,400 operating studios worldwide, in 50 states and 26 countries.

The Owensboro Studio will be located at 2490 Calumet Trace Suite 1, which is in a new strip center that is currently being built next to Pet Supplies Plus in Gateway Commons.
