Three of the 22 homes in the Parade of Homes that continues next weekend are built by Thompson Homes, a family-owned business that celebrated 70 years in 2018.

The company was founded by Bill Thompson, current president Nick Thompson’s grandfather, and there are currently 10 full-time employees, not including the contractors that work on Thompson Homes builds.

Thompson Homes builds in Owensboro and Evansville and Newburgh.

Nick said that the three houses they are featuring include amenities that today’s buyer would want in newer neighborhoods and communities. He said that buyer’s tastes and desires change frequently, so the builders and designers consider what people are looking for now versus last year.

“We get feedback from customers with every home about the features and amenities that are important to them and we incorporate those into the home we showcase,” Nick said.

Two of the homes on the tour feature the same floor plan, but each has differences that lend to the specific house.

The locations of the homes chosen to include in the Parade of Homes is also important, and Nick said they consider newer communities or ones in which they will have a presence for years to come.

“That way, people can come to us after the Parade of Homes and after seeing the choices,” Nick said.

Design coordinator for Thompson Homes and also Nick’s wife, Jenifer, said they have a warehouse where they can store furniture used to stage their homes, and most of the furniture and accessories used they try to buy locally.

“I try to consider the type of buyer we are trying to market to,” Jenifer said about what types of furniture and accessories people who visit the homes on the tour will see.

Jenifer is who Thompson Homes customers come to when they have decided their floor plans and budget.

“I have a checklist of what they need to decide — from siding to floors to paint and tile,” Jenifer said. “If they want to do more custom design work on the interior, we refer them to an interior designer.”

The Parade of Homes presented by The Homeowners Association of Owensboro continues through June 29 and 30.
