Owensboro Police Officer Zachary Morris

The Kentucky State Police said interviews are being conducted with Owensboro Police Department officer Zachary Morris, 23, who was shot by homeowner David Turley, 63, Wednesday, Oct. 10 on Hathaway St.

According to KSP, Officer Morris was responding to a call of a suspicious person in the area when he was struck by Turley. Turley told news sources he was “in fear of his life” when he shot Officer Morris around 6 a.m.

Trooper Corey King, KSP Public Affairs Officer, said there are still interviews to complete before going further with the investigation. King said, most likely, KSP will seek Commonwealth Attorney Bruce Kuegel and a grand jury to assist with a possible criminal case.

“It’s better for a body of 12 to make a decision — it’s standard protocol,” King said, of a case of this nature. “It depends on what the Commonwealth Attorney says.”

King said, at this time, there’s nothing revealing that an act of a criminal nature took place.
