After seeing reports on social media regarding a possible school shooting at Daviess County Public Schools, Owensboro Times contacted Owensboro Police Department.

Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess said no such report was made to OPD. He said a call came in at 11:18 p.m. Sunday from a parent reporting her child was missing.

According to Boggess, initial information that was heard over the police scanner about a threat to Apollo High School was incorrect once officers spoke to the mother.

“There was no mention of a weapon or shooting,” Boggess said.

OPD notified the principal and school resource officer from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office in case the school felt the need to increase security.

Boggess said to his knowledge the child is still missing.

Daviess County Public Schools made the following statement on social media:

We want to take this opportunity to address rumors that are being shared on social media. Early this morning (Monday, March 18), we became aware of a situation in which song lyrics posted by a student caused some concern. There was no mention of any school and no threats were made at any time; however, social media postings have identified a student at Apollo High School. Local law enforcement agencies are aware of this situation and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office will have an additional presence this morning to reassure students, staff and families of the security of our schools. We invite parents/guardians to engage their students in conversations about these important topics. We encourage students, families or members of our community to always share information of concern. Reports may be made anonymously by clicking the STOP Tipline logo at the top of our district website at www.dcps.org Information about threats should be always be reported immediately to 911.
