DEVELOPING: A downed tree that is partially over the roadway in the 1500 block of Griffith Avenue is causing 998 Owensboro Municipal Utilities customers to be without power. The tree is resting on power lines and causing utility poles to lean as well.
Griffith Avenue is closed between Mayfair Avenue and South Griffith Avenue and traffic lights are out at Frederica Street and Parrish Avenue, Walnut Avenue and Parrish Avenue and Griffith Avenue and Lewis Lane.
Crews are working to restore power to the area, including the traffic lights, but it is likely to be out for a few hours. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and give extra time for travel, according to Andrew Boggess, Public Information Officer for OPD.
