Meijer has announced a recall of 43,292 pounds of ground beef across stores in six different states, including Kentucky.

In conjunction with JBS Plainwell, Meijer has announced a recall of 43,292 pounds of ground beef across stores in six different states, including Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. The voluntary recall was made as a precautionary measure after it was discovered that pieces of extraneous material — notably, pieces of hard plastic — may have contaminated a multitude of one-pound packages of Meijer branded ground beef.

The product in question was sold between March 22, 2019 and April 9, 2019 at all Meijer stores in the aforementioned states. No injuries have been reported thus far, according to a joint statement released by Meijer and JBS on Tuesday.

The recalled items include:

UPC: 201258, 85% lean/15% fat, Meijer Ground Beef, net weight: 1 lb.
UPC: 202106, 90% lean/10% fat, Meijer Ground Beef, net weight: 1 lb.
UPC: 201155, 80% lean/20% fat, Meijer Ground Beef, net weight: 1 lb.

This recall applies to products produced and packaged by JBS Plainwell with a “sell by” date of April 10, 2019. Customers who’ve purchased meat at Meijer with this sell by date should throw the meat away or return it at the closest Meijer location. Customers can expect a full refund for any purchased ground beef that falls under these guidelines.

Consumers with questions or concerns regarding this recall can contact Meijer at 800-543-3704. Those with questions or concerns about their health should contact their physician.
