Spectra, the providers of Venue Management to the Owensboro Sportscenter, announced another improvement made to one of the city’s most historic venues. The metal halide lights over the arena floor have been converted to the latest in LED lighting.

“The transition is expected to yield annual energy and maintenance savings at the Owensboro Sportscenter while brightening the ambiance of the arena and allowing us to provide a variety of lighting options for our clients that were previously unavailable,” said Laura Alexander, General Manager for Spectra Venue Management. “We expect to see a savings of at least $25,000 over the next 10 years.”

On average, the LED lights will provide 66 percent energy savings over the former metal halide lights. In addition, the LED lights have a longer lifetime – approximately 100,000 hours versus the metal halide light at 15,000 – 20,000 hours, reducing the need to replace the lights as often. Plus, the LED lights let off about 75 percent less heat than the metal halide lights, which in turn will cut down cooling costs.

Other facility-enhancing features the new LED lighting provides include instant on/off, dimming capabilities, and an overall brighter and cleaner light. Combined with the newer LED scoreboards/videoboards that were replaced in 2017, the LED lighting will be another component to creating a better experience for guests attending events at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

In 2016, the concession stands at the Owensboro Sportscenter were renovated once Spectra was hired to manage the operations of the facility. In 2017, the videoboards/scoreboards were replaced and a new basketball floor was installed.
