Crofton man arrested after Sunday’s felony assault, evading OPD officer

UPDATE: 3:36 p.m. 8/27/2019 — Earl Cook was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Christian County, Ky., by law enforcement officials. More information will be released as it is available.


Detectives with the Owensboro Police Department have obtained a warrant of arrest for Earl R. Cook, 20, of Crofton, Ky. He is wanted for felony assault in the first degree and felony fleeing or evading police in the first degree after an incident Sunday night involving an OPD officer.

His whereabouts are unknown at this time. He may be armed with a firearm and should be considered
armed and dangerous. Call 911 immediately if you have seen Cook.

According to Owensboro Police Department, at approximately 10:44 p.m. Sunday, officers responding to a drug complaint near the 800 block of Center Street observed “suspected drug activity” between multiple subjects including one subject inside a white passenger vehicle.

Officers attempted to make contact with the subject inside the vehicle and instructed him to exit. After the subject refused to exit the vehicle an officer opened the driver door and made an attempt to get the subject to exit the vehicle.

According to OPD, the subject “began fighting with the officer and accelerated at a high rate of speed, dragging the officer.” The subject in the vehicle then fled the scene and has not been located.

The officer was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident.
