Daviess County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Monday to the suspect believed to be involved with the ammo box filled with weapons and potentially explosive devices found last Thursday off KY-54. While searching the home of the man — who will remain unnamed until he’s officially charged — authorities discovered several belongings that matched up with the items found in the box.

DCSO was joined by Owensboro Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit and members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the execution of the search warrant, which occurred Monday afternoon on Indian Creek Loop in Daviess County’s Stonegate subdivision.

Major Bill Thompson, head of criminal investigations at DCSO, said there’s only one suspect who was involved in this incident. The identity of the suspect was uncovered when authorities discovered a firearm inside the box that traced back to the owner.

Other items of evidence were discovered Monday as well, Thompson said.

“In executing the warrant, we found evidence that indicates the person involved with the suspicious items in the box is the same person whose house we searched today,” he said.

Items similar to those in the ammo box were uncovered in the suspect’s home, inside a safe.

Thompson said a .9 millimeter Ruger was found in the ammo box. Authorities discovered the box that Ruger came in during Monday’s search. They also found a box that matched a watch from the ammo container, Thompson said.

“We also found other electronics that are similar to the [suspicious devices] found at the scene,” he added.

Thompson said the suspect wasn’t what he’d call “cooperative” during the search and seizure of evidence and he asked to speak to an attorney.

DCSO is awaiting forensic evidence data, which Thompson said should be received soon. DCSO plans to meet with the Daviess Commonwealth Attorney’s office on Tuesday to go over their findings. It’s possible the Commonwealth’s Attorney will issue a warrant for the suspect’s arrest, Thompson said.

This search warrant was executed after local law enforcement received a call about a box containing several suspicious items. The box was discovered about 100 feet off KY-54, near Countryside subdivision and Country Heights Elementary School in east Daviess County.

OPD’s Hazardous Devices Unit were called to the scene, where they performed a roadside detonation with one of the suspicious devices. During the investigation, Thompson told Owensboro Times that at least one of the suspicious devices had the potential to explode, but that several different items inside the ammo box could’ve been manufactured to create a bomb.
