Local long-distance runner and U.S. Army Veteran, Chris Conley, has been named Grand Marshal for the 101st Owensboro/Daviess County Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 9.

Conley recently spearheaded Kentucky’s first Run for the Fallen that started with ceremonies at the Owensboro Shelton Memorial and ended at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

Dozens of long-distance runners from across the country took turns running along the 109-mile course via the scenic route by way of state routes and highways through small towns and communities. Dozens of gold star families lined the roads at hero markers along the way.

A new addition to the parade this year will be an afternoon Cruise-In Car Show for the participating car clubs immediately following the parade from 3-5 p.m. Cars will park along Veterans Blvd just beyond the VFW Post 696.

Marine veteran and long-time parade chair, Lou Drawdy, is retiring this year from the parade committee.

Local businesses, civic groups, school groups, and churches are welcome to be a part of the Veterans Day parade.
