Daviess County has been chosen as a pilot for a juror text notification program through the Administrative Office of the Courts.

Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Hardesty Besecker said this is a third resource for jurors to be notified of important information.

“It is not a requirement to get text notifications as we also have social media pages and a jury line where jurors can call in,” she said.

Before Hardesty Besecker came into office, text notifications for jurors was one thing she wanted to accomplish.

“I’m thrilled that Daviess County has been chosen as a pilot county,” she said. “We were asked because we had an upcoming jury orientation, which is the start of a new jury panel. Of course, this is what I’ve wanted so my office absolutely obliged when asked.”

Once summoned and qualified to serve, jurors are provided with service alerts via text message with report and cancellation information for service dates during their service term. In some counties, jurors might receive additional messages to add or remove service dates from their service schedule. Jurors will automatically be removed from the text notification system at the completion of the jury service term.

Although there is not a charge for this service, standard message and data rates may apply depending on the juror’s phone carrier.

Other counties that are currently in the pilot program are Christian, Oldham and Hancock. Franklin and Calloway Counties will go live this week.
