Daviess County Fiscal Court held a public hearing last week regarding the closeout for the Friendly Village Sewer Project. There was nobody present who spoke during the public hearing, though County officials briefly discussed the completion of the Friendly Village sewer project.
Fiscal Court played a major hand in connecting 68 homes in the Friendly Village subdivision to public wastewater lines after the operator of their local package plant facilities filed for abandonment in 2016.
Community Development Block Grants were implemented in order to make this project come to fruition, with Fiscal Court making sure those in Friendly Village maintained their sewer connection for two years while the project took place, and also helped in securing the grant money for the project.
The Friendly Village sewer project officially ended four weeks ago, said Judge-Executive Al Mattingly, and a celebration will be held on Oct. 28.
“As [Mattingly said], this was the largest asset of homes at risk,” said Commissioner Charlie Castlen.
County Commissioner George Wathen said he was approached in public by a resident of Friendly Village recently, who thanked Wathen for Fiscal Court’s work on the project.
“It was a great feeling — he was very happy and sincere,” Wathen said.
