On Saturday, Sept. 28, an Owensboro Police Department officer was involved in a collision that left both drivers injured. The driver who hit the officer was charged with DUI after being released from Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

According to a report from Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred late Saturday night at 11:10 p.m. in the 2700 block of New Hartford Road.

Nicky R. Henderson, 42, of the 2000 block of 19th Street was driving a 2001 Dodge Intrepid eastbound on 27th Street toward New Hartford Road as OPD Officer Thomas M. Davis, 34, was traveling southbound on New Hartford Road.

“Unit 1 (Henderson) failed to yield right of way and pulled out into an intersection, causing Unit 2 to collide with Unit 1’s driver’s side,” the report states.

Both parties were injured and taken to OHRH for treatment of injuries. Each car sustained moderate-to-severe damages as a result of the crash.

Henderson was charged with driving under the influence (first offense), failure to produce insurance card and disregarding a stop sign.
