Local artist Aaron Kizer will soon begin the process of painting the Kentucky Legend Pier. A design created by Kizer will exemplify both the Kentucky Legend logo and downtown Owensboro, according to Kentucky Legend Director of Marketing Brooklyn Maple.

Kentucky Legend has used heated adhesives to place their logo on the pier in past years, but paint lasts longer and can’t be tampered with, Maple said.

“We’ve been putting out adhesive Kentucky Legend logos and, unfortunately, they weren’t standing up to the weather and people were picking at them and pulling them off,” she said.

Kizer’s construction company, Kizer Construction, was in the middle of a separate project when Maple spoke to Aaron about the logo.

“He offered to paint it,” she said.

Maple said Kentucky Legend wanted a different style of its original logo, and that Kizer decided to incorporate the blue bridge and some brighter colors into the design.

Weather permitting, Kizer should start the painting project on Thursday and finish up by Nov. 20. Kentucky Legend plans to have an unveiling with the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 22.

“We actually let him do what he wanted to do, and he came up with this,” Maple said. “The area will be roped off while he paints, but people will be able to see him painting during those six days.”
