Chase Simmons made his first appearance in Circuit Court on Thursday for charges made against him in a Whitesville shooting incident that left two teenagers Amarius Winstead, 16, and Jasper Brown, 18, dead.
Simmons, who was 17 when the incident occurred, was transferred to adult court on Oct. 23, after turning 18. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office charged Simmons with two counts of murder and second-degree assault. Tyler Glover, 19, was also shot but recovered from his injuries.
At Thursday’s court appearance, family members and friends of the victims showed up wearing T-shirts in support of their lost loved ones. Simmons did not speak at Thursday’s court appearance.
Circuit Court Judge Jay Wethington lowered Simmons’ bond from $2.5 million to $75,000, upsetting many of the victims’ family members.
Simmons was arrested and charged by DCSO on June 4 and was lodged at the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center before being transferred to the Daviess County Detention Center in October.
