The Owensboro Police Department’s Operation Santa will kick off its seventh-annual food drive Monday.
OPD will team up with the Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County in delivering over 300 food boxes to citizens of Owensboro. Food boxes will go to residents who are regularly served by the Senior Community Center and Green River Area Development District (GRADD) Meals on Wheels program.
“This program is funded with money raised from the annual ‘No Shave November’ fundraiser and donations made by local businesses and organizations,” said OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess.
On the 23rd, OPD volunteers and their respective family members will gather inside OPD’s Community Room at 9 a.m. to assemble the 300-plus boxes of food. Once assembled, volunteers will transport the food boxes across town via OPD police cruisers.
OPD would like to thank the following organizations and businesses for their generosity toward the Operation Santa initiative: Kroger, IGA, Meijer, Specialty Food Groups, LLC, Lowe’s, Owensboro Health, Edge Body Boot Camp, Owensboro Public Schools, Owensboro Catholic Schools and Owensboro City Hall employees.
