As the local housing market continues to excel, the Greater Owensboro REALTOR Association reports that January 2020 was a record month for local real estate. In fact, it was the best January they’ve reported in five years.
According to 2020 GORA President Karen Gross, realtors sold 110 units and brought in more than $17 million in sales volume.
These record-breaking numbers were achieved despite a lower inventory in the housing market that’s affected the real estate industry locally, state-wide and nationally.
“With inventory tightening and days on market decreasing, it means one thing: REALTORS are getting the job done,” Gross said.
GORA reports show that 79 units were sold in Jan. 2016 compared to the 110 sold last month. The average price on housing units sold increased from $150,924 in Jan. 2016 to $156,445 in Jan. 2020. Jan. 2020 saw a total sales increase that totaled over $5 million since Jan. 2016.
There were 316 active listings in Jan. 2020 compared to 342 in Jan. 2016. Even more, there were 386 active listings in Jan. 2019, meaning realtors had 70 fewer homes to work with this year.
