City Attorney Steve Lynn was arrested Wednesday night by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and charged with driving under the influence.
According to the DCSO citation, Lynn was traveling northbound in the 7000 block of U.S. 431 when a deputy clocked him going 68 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. Upon contact, Lynn was allegedly unable to produce his insurance card.
“Deputy could smell a strong odor of intoxicating beverages coming from [Lynn] and [Lynn] had slurred his speech,” the citation states. “[Lynn] stated he had only drank one beer this date.”
According to the citation, the DCSO deputy explained the process of performing field sobriety tests to Lynn, who said he understood what they entailed. Upon performing the field sobriety tests, the deputy claimed Lynn had trouble following instructions and demonstrated a “lack of smooth pursuit.”
During a walk-and-turn test, DCSO alleged Lynn did not keep his stance, stepped off the line, and almost fell.
A breathalyzer test revealed the presence of intoxicating substances, the citation said, and Lynn was arrested at 9:34 p.m.
The citation said Lynn refused a blood test after being taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital following his arrest.
“[Lynn] did try to make contact with multiple attorneys but was unable to do so within the 15-minute time frame,” DCSO said. “Blood was requested due to [Lynn] having troubles with the [breathalyzer].”
Lynn was lodged at the Daviess County Detention Center and charged with driving under the influence (aggravated circumstances), speeding 13 miles per hour over the limit, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle and failure to produce insurance card.
