A total of 19 new cases of COVID-19 were reported for the Green River District on Tuesday, including eight in Daviess County. Cases were also announced for Ohio (4), Henderson (4) and Webster (3) counties. A total of 16 more patients have recovered in the area.

Of the 219 total cases reported by Green River District Health Department in the seven-county district, 116 (53%) have now recovered and 40 (18%) have required hospitalization. There are 13 patients currently hospitalized, and there have been four deaths — three in Daviess County and one in McLean County.

Clay Horton, GRDHD Public Health Director, said the Health Department frequently receives the question about how many COVID-19 tests have been performed locally, and he knows it is not as many as they need.

“However, it is extremely difficult to get accurate data about this,” Horton said. “While positive results are required to be reported to the Health Department by the healthcare provider and the laboratories, the local Health Department does not typically receive the negative result reports. We are continuing to work with the state Health Department to find solutions to these reporting challenges, and more importantly ways to support additional testing capacity here locally.”

The cases reported by GRDHD have been investigated and confirmed locally. These cases are then reported to the Kentucky Department for Public Health. This process sometimes may result in lags between state and local reporting and some discrepancies from duplicate reports.

The county totals are:

  • Daviess County – 125 cases, 72 recovered, 5 current hospitalizations, 18 ever hospitalized, 3 deaths
  • Hancock County – 6 cases, 3 recovered
  • Henderson County – 43 cases, 21 recovered, 4 current hospitalizations, 11 ever hospitalized
  • McLean County – 7 cases, 2 recovered, 1 current hospitalization, 2 ever hospitalized, 1 death
  • Ohio County – 18 cases, 8 recovered, 2 current hospitalizations, 5 ever hospitalized
  • Union County – 6 cases, 3 recovered
  • Webster County – 14 cases, 7 recovered, 1 current hospitalization, 4 ever hospitalized

Patients range in age from 16-93, with an average age of 47. To date, 51.8% of patients have been female and 48.2% have been male. Cases by age range are:

  • 1-19 — 7 cases
  • 20-29 — 33 cases
  • 30-39 — 39 cases
  • 40-49 — 47 cases
  • 50-59 — 37 cases
  • 60-69 — 31 cases
  • 70-79 — 14 cases
  • 80+ — 11 cases

Cases are expected to continue to rise as testing capacity increases in the area and across the state.
