A Daviess County man was arrested Wednesday after a brief standoff with Daviess County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Officers responded to an assault call in the Philpot area. When they arrived they found Jonathon D. Mattingly, 29, refusing to drop his weapon. After a standoff, officers searched his residence and found a “marijuana grow operation” and methamphetamine.
DCSO and Kentucky State Police responded to a call around 10 a.m. Wednesday from a female who said she’d been assaulted by Mattingly. The female also told law enforcement that Mattingly had a firearm on him.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene in the 9600 block of KY 144, they observed Mattingly exit the residence while holding a rifle.
“Mattingly saw deputies and refused commands to drop the weapon, then returned inside the house still armed,” a citation from DCSO said. “The female victim was able to exit the house and was taken to a safe location.”
There was a brief standoff between KSP, DCSO and Mattingly before he was taken into custody.
According to DCSO, a search warrant was obtained for the residence, officers found marijuana and methamphetamine.
“Deputies and detectives also recovered seven firearms that were not surrendered for a prior EPO (emergency protection order), which is still active,” DCSO said.
Mattingly was charged with fourth-degree assault, violation of a KY EPO/DVO, cultivating marijuana, drug paraphernalia, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate and failure to register transfer of a motor vehicle.
Authorities said the female victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Mattingly had been previously arrested in late February for first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer), reckless driving, first-degree fleeing/evading police in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, driving under the influence (second offense) after leading officers on an eight-mile pursuit through eastern Daviess County. Law enforcement had been responding to a terroristic threatening call when Mattingly took off in his vehicle.
